Hello,
I am hoping someone can help me to transcribe the word 'courage' into its phonetic spelling. I have come across a few different versions: the most common appears to be "kʌrɪdʒ" but I have also come across "kʌɹɪdʒ" (as well as other versions)

Assistance would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

/kʌrɪdʒ/ is the phonemic transcription of the word in BrE given by most British phoneticians and lexicographers. Other people may use difference transcriptions systems.
The phonetic (not phonemic] symbol [ɹ] could well be used in some people's phonetic transcription of the word. /ɹ/ represent a variant of the sound phonemically denoted as /r/ that is more common in AmE than in BrE.

Thank you! I hope you don't mind, but I have since come up with another 2 (hopefully easy to answer) questions:
1. what is the difference between /ʌ/ and /3/ and /ɝ/.
I have seen these used in different transcriptions of /kʌrɪdʒ/
2. I have also seen /:/ and /./ used (as in
kʌr.ɪdʒ and kɝ:.ɪdʒ). What do these represent?

Thanks again for your help - it is much appreciated.
