NASA spent a lot of time on reseaching a pen that could work outside the earth, and they were successful. It worked not only zero gravity but also underwarter, glass... The pen was developed at a cost of one million dolar.
• SoViet union faced the same proplem. They used a pencil.

I don't understand your point about "spend". Surely you'd have to tell us why you didn't use it.

Check the words in red. Do you have an English spell-checker? Besides, on this editor, a misspelled word is underlined in red usually.

I don't use "on" before the -ing form of the verb when using "spend time" (or "spend + something else). I would use it before a noun.

I spend a lot of time researching volcanoes.
I spend a lot of time on volcanology.

I spent £400 playing tennis last month.
I spent £400 on tennis last month.

Raymott was absolute right to add "to" before "go into space". I missed that when I wrote my corrected version. Sorry.
