what does "join in the griping" mean?

    Hello there,

I'd like to know what does "join in the griping" in below statement mean:

But neither do you have to join in the griping which not only adds to the already sizable problem, but shuts your valve down tight.

    Thank you very much.

It's not a hundred percent clear from the context, to me, because of the bit about the valve, but if it is describing emotions, then 'griping' means 'complaining' or 'moaning'.
