Hello all,

I am writing to ask for some help regarding improving English using watching movies or TV shows.
Do you think that it will be effective if we start watching cartoon? Do you think because cartoons don't like a real life, their dialogues are not good enough for improving our English?
I also have watched some movies. But I found that it is so difficult to understand the whole concept of movies. Sometime it is a real struggle as we have to look up all the vocabularies that we have never heard them or have to know about English rules. I want to know if watching movies can be an effective way of learning English? Also do we need to understand and study all the sentences saying in the movies?

Thank you.

Hello, Betty:

1. I have read the comments of some celebrities who claim that they learned English simply by watching American movies.

a) You have nothing to lose by trying this method.

(1) Be sure to watch at least one movie every day.

2. In my opinion, it would be a mistake to try to understand all the words and sentences.

a) Relax and let the dialogue wash over you.

(1) Gradually over the months, you will probably start to understand more words and then sentences.

Best wishes

The dialog in historical dramas is usually easier to understand because it tends to follow the rules you're taught in English classes. Films set in contemporary times use slangier and more casual language.

Hello, Sarah-Betty:

I have found a Google article in which the author claims that her list of five movies will help learners understand English better.

She explains why (in her opinion) each movie is particularly helpful.

The five movies are:

"Toy Station" (1995)
"Forrest Gump" (1994)
"10 Things I Hate About You" (1999)
"Jurassic Park" (1993)
"The Office" (2005 - 2013)

You can read the article by googling these words: Watch These 5 Movies To Help Learn The English Language Better Briana Perez

Thank you VERY much for the correction.

I want to make it very clear that I am responsible for the mistake, not Ms. Perez.

We will try to find it in our hearts to forgive you. No guarantees, though. ;-)
