    Angela Lansbury┤s accent

    Hello,

Can anybody tell me what kind of accent Mrs. Lansbury speaks in this interview?

    Thanks a lot.

    Re: Angela Lansbury┤s accent

Wikipedia tells me she spent her first fifteen years in London, then moved to New York, then on to Hollywood. She has a Sargasso Sea accent Ś midway between England and America.

We call it mid-Atlantic in the UK- I hadn't heard Sargasso Sea before. The English aspects are RP/posh for me.

There are also heavy traces of nonagenarian present.

"Sargasso Sea accent" is an invention of an American friend married to an English woman whose accent has gradually shifted westward over the years. The term mid-Atlantic is taken in American usage; it describes the accent adopted by American actors and aristocrats in the early twentieth century.
