    Scorpion & Woman

Hi. I have a picture of a woman in space who is sitting on a twig and is breastfeeding a scorpion. I have heard something about such woman who knows that the scorpion is MORTAL and she uses this word ironically, that is mortal with two meanings: 1- killing 2- not perpetual.
Now I wonder if anybody knows something about this picture and the philosophy behind it.
    I would be most grateful.

    Re: Scorpion & Woman

Hello Khorrami, welcome to Using English!

It reminds me a little of the death of Cleopatra, in Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra. But the creature in the play was a snake.

Isis, the Egyptian goddess, was also associated with scorpions; though I know of no story where she suckles one.

    How old is the picture?

    All the best,
