    Hello, Teachers.
    I have two questions.

1, I'd like to know the meaning of "that" in the next sentence.
This is the second time this year that it happened.

2, I'd like to know the difference between "a" and "b".
a, This was the second time this year that it happened.
b, This would have been the second time this year that it happened.

    Have a nice day.

    Re: would

    1) "that" in this sentence has no own, true sense.
it is only kind of conctruction, you also can say:
That is second time it had happen in this year.
It is happend second time (twice) this year.

    2) a) = it has happen in the past.
    b) = it would/ may/ can (possible) happen in the past, but it didn't
    Correct me, if I wrong

    Re: would

    Hello Irushka,

The 'that' means to point out someting that happened again the second time aroud.

The first sentence is telling about someting that happened twice this year. On the other hand, the second sentence is telling about something that could have happened though it did not really happen.
