He definitely says something like keeped. That's not an error any native speaker would normally make. I can only guess that he started to say keep, then decided he should say kept, and ended up mixing the two words up. That kind of thing happens sometimes.

Exactly. Notice how he pauses after the error, partly I guess in recognition that he messed it up.
