Mount Vesuvius had one of the most famous eruptions ever in AD 79 when an eruption from Vesuvius buried Herculaneum and Pompeii under tons and tons of volcanic ash. Vesuvius is a somme-stratovalcano located on the Gulf of Naples in Campaagnia, Italy, about 9km east of Naples and a short distance from the shore.
