    The roof of the chicken

    Hi,

Is "The roof of the chicken coop is made by using angle irons, wooden crates and clay" correct?

Re: The roof of the chicken

It's correct but slightly unnatural. It would be perfectly natural in the past tense, "was made using .. ". In the present tense we'd tend to use 'made of" rather than "made using."

Angle iron is uncountable, so you should not use the plural.

I thiink angle iron sections would work. Wooden crates - are you sure? A crate is a wooden case for transporting goods.

Angle irons are very countable where I live, especially in rural contexts; and we are speaking here of chicken coops. The CoCA has 144 examples of "angle irons".

Re: The roof of the chicken

Pieces is unnecessary in my opinion. Obviously the crates would have to be broken down to some extent.
