    you have a fault

    Hi,

I read a sentence from an earlier post of VOA, here it is:

"If you have a fault that is being strained at a speed of 7 mm per year, which is the case here," says the Purdue University professor. "The last major event on that fault occurred 250 years ago, so if the fault snaps, it's going to snap by 1.7 meters, and that's about a magnitude 7 earthquake."

How do you understand "you have" here, shouldn't it be "there is"?

    Re: you have a fault

I do not like the word speed. I prefer "rate"(of strain).
I am not a teacher or a native speaker.

    Re: you have a fault

I wouldn't use you have that way in formal writing, but (along with you've got), it's fine in casual speech.
    I am not a teacher.
