    Boy was I glad

What's the meaning of this sentence?
"My mom and dad came and got me just before lunch and boy was I glad to see them."

    - My parents arrived at the place where I was.
    - They picked me up.
    - WOW. See also the entry for "boy" as an exclamation in this link.

Depends on the context/situation, but "got me" would be unusual or not understandable.

No. It's a form of inversion used in such exclamatory sentences.

On second thought or read, "got me" could be replaced with "picked me up".

It looks completely natural to me. It means they picked me up from wherever I was.
    I am not a teacher.

Yes. I misunderstood the "got me" as in "presented me with" something.
