for a period during/in which regulations tell us to store data

    Hello,

Data needed to fulfill the legal duties will be made use of by us:
    a) for as long as the duties are done, for instance, issuing invoices or other documents that constitute a basis for settlements between us,
    b) for a period during/in which regulations tell us to store data, for instance, tax-related data,

I would like to ask you to tell me if there is something wrong with sentence b), paying attention to the bolded and italicised fragment. I don't know which is better to use: for a period during which or for a period in which. Nor am I sure if it is correct to use the verb "tell" in "regulations tell us to store data". The verb "tell" might have to be replaced by "order", "command" or even "require". The "require" option was suggested by google translate but I don't always trust it.

Could you help me out in this respect? I would be very grateful.

Maybe "we are required to store data" is a better idea.

    Perhaps:

Data needed to fulfill legal duties will be made available to us for as long as it is needed.

We will retain copies of your data for such period of time as required by law or until the end of our contract, whichever comes first.

I would call that "accounts information/data" which is to be kept for a certain period as required by law (seven years in my country).
