Although he had had many female admirers

    Have I made any mistakes?

Although he had had many female admirers, the great inventor Nikola Tesla lived in celibate, focusing all his energy on his inventions and experiments. He died as a poor man in a New York hotel room, surrounded by his pigeons he was immensely fond of.

I think you meant to write "in celibacy", right?
You can also use "remained celibate".
However, do we really know that for a fact?! If not, then say something like "never married" or "remained single" instead.

You could also say surrounded by the pigeons he was immensely fond of IMO.

Re: Although he had had many female admirers

PS And how about although he had, as the admirers were at the same time as the celibacy?
