    After George graduated

    Have I made any mistakes?

After George graduated, he was offered a promising career in finance and comfortable existence, but he chose less secure career of a painter. He believed that he would be happier dedicating his life to art even if he earned modest than spending years doing something he didn't like, even if that job was well-paid.

Instead of repeating "career", you might want to use something like "line".

That would be strange if he had majored in finance.
