A formal synonym for "wear and tear"

    Hi there,

Can anyone, please, tell me if there's any other commonly used word for "wear and tear"?

I was wondering if anything can be used more specifically with 'cars', or pieces of machinery in a factory.

Re: A formal synonym for "wear and tear"

Nothing wrong with "wear and tear" IMO, but here are some suggestions: Best choice depends on the specific situation.
    1. Service life.
    2. Leave out tear and just use wear.
    3. Normal usage/normal service.
    4. Designed life.
    5. Wear limits.

I think "wear and tear" is formal enough and is used in legal documents like leases and warranties.
