A player owing to injuries to certain players.

A player owing to injuries to certain players.

Please tell me what does this sentence mean "owing to injuries to certain players"? It is a sentence from "Times of India" newspaper.

It's not a sentence, so we can't say what it means.

Just to be clear, tufguy, I'll repeat GS's words with my emphasis added:

Please quote the entire sentence with a link to its source.

(I have a small bet with myself - the word 'batsman' will appear in the sentence.)

Owing to injuries to certain players, they don't think the team will make the playoffs this year.

There's a sentence for you. The phrase in question means those injuries are the cause of something.

The Tamil Nadu cricketer, who was the part of India's world cup strategy primarily as the second-choice wicket keeper and played the last couple of matches as batsman owing to injuries to certain players, will not be Dhoni's replacement in the larger context.

I think owing to injuries means "having injuries" or "struggling with injuries". Am I correct? If I am correct then what does this sentence "batsman owing to injuries to certain players" mean?

Well, I won my bet with myself about the word 'batsman' (post #5). You wasted our time, tufguy, by providing inaccurate and incomplete information. Please try to be more careful in future.

I think owing to injuries means "having injuries" or "struggling with injuries". Am I correct?
No. "Owing to" has its normal meaning, similar to because of/as a result of/due to.

If I am correct then what does this sentence "batsman owing to injuries to certain players" mean?
"batsman owing to injuries to certain players" is not a sentence, as you were told in post #2. "owing to injuries to certain players" is subordinate to the clause "The Tamil Nadu cricketer... played the last couple of matches as batsman", not to the word "the batsman".

Re: A player owing to injuries to certain players.

    1) You asked about the meaning of a sentence that did not exist and made out that it did. Do you still not know what a sentence is?
    2) You took a fragment of a real sentence and changed one of the words. Why did you do this?

This is unacceptable, and in my opinion bordering on rude. You've been using the forum long enough to know that you cannot do things like this.

Why didn't you present the phrase in its natural context, as you did in post #7?

I thought that would be enough to know the meaning of that phrase but sorry for that.
