    Yes, it would be wrong. There is a significant difference in usage between ground and ground
    s.

    If you have access to Google, search for 'in the ground'. Most results switch you to 'on the ground'. Your dictionary will show a definition similar to your example with the plural form: ground
    s.

    I have one brother, both parents, and four grandparents 'in the ground' (they are dead and buried). When farmers buy seed, it comes in bags. The bags are stored in a shed until it's time to put the seeds in the ground. If the seeds somehow are on the ground, the farmer has a mess to clean up.

    Please don't be 'one of those' posters who asks a perfectly reasonable question and gets a 'no' from more than one responder. Then they keep defending until they get one very qualified 'maybe' and stick with that.
