    What caught my eye the most is ....

    1) What caught my eye the most is the way they respect each other.
    2) What caught my eye most is the way they respect each other.

    I think both sentences are correct, but I'm not sure. Maybe they are, but only one of them is considered good English.

    I agree that they're both correct. There is arguably a subtle difference in meaning between them.

    In (1), with "the" before "most," their respect for each other is implicitly being compared with other things that caught your eye.

    In (2), without that "the," there is no such comparison. The idea is that their respect for each other was the most eye-catching feature for you. Compare:

    2a) What most caught my eye is the way they respect each other.
