What do you call a strumming pattern?

When a guitarist explains the way the right hand of the player should move, it might be something like this: down - up - muting - up - down - up - muting. In Russian, we call a strumming pattern "бой" ("a stroke"?), and, say, watching a video on YouTube, we might ask a guitar player "Как играть бой?" ("How do you play the stroke?"). What do you call a strumming pattern played on the guitar?
If it's not too much trouble to you, could you please correct any errors I might have made in this post?

Call it precisely as you describe it—a strumming pattern.

    What's the strumming pattern?
