    thank you very much

    Dear friends,
I would be much grateful if anyone could help me with the following problems.

1)Mental practice can actually increase real world strength and performance,.. Pumping virtual iron physically changes the brain—and the brain, after all, controls the body. (In this sentence, what does " Pumping virtual iron " mean?)
2)The combined effects of skin aging can cause increased bruising and skin tears.(In this sentence, what is "skin tears".)
3)conventional position requires users to either compromise their preferred gaze angle, or to adopt postures in which one or more of the cervical joints are relatively extended. (What does "compromise" mean here?
4)That lesson has not been lost on the U.S. Olympic Committee. It had one full-time sports psychologist in 1988. Today it has five.(What does "lost" mean here?)

"Pumping iron" in the tradition sense means to lift weights, or to exercise. "Pumping virtual iron" means to exercise your brain. You can't literally lift weights with it, but you can work puzzles, or read textbooks or similar things to stretch and "exercise" your mind.

2)The combined effects of skin aging can cause increased bruising and skin tears.(In this sentence, what is "skin tears".)
Literally a rip or tear in the skin. When you accidentally cut your finger with a knife, that "tears" the skin.

3)conventional position requires users to either compromise their preferred gaze angle, or to adopt postures in which one or more of the cervical joints are relatively extended. (What does "compromise" mean here?
If your computer monitor is not positioned correctly, you may have to tilt your head upwards or downwards in a position that is not normal for you, or one that you don't usually use. The cervical bones are found in the neck, and they can cause headaches or blurry vision or other problems if they are hyperextended or held in an awkward position.

4)That lesson has not been lost on the U.S. Olympic Committee. It had one full-time sports psychologist in 1988. Today it has five.(What does "lost" mean here?)
It means that they well remember the incident that prompted the use of full-time sports psychologists. Whatever the incident was at the time, they learned from it, and hopefully will not make the same mistake again.
