the second person was mum speaking

I sent a couple of audio messages to a friend to a friend whom I am trying to help with English.
After the second message I said "the second person was mum speaking", I then god corrected to " the second person is mum speaking".

    Did I say it wrong?

Re: the second person was mum speaking

The present tense is is much better than the past tense was.

By the way, you should either capitalise Mum or say my mum.

Also, change the title of this thread. It has nothing to do with pronunciation.

    Welcome to the forum.

Note my corrections above. The word order is awkward. We would say "The second person [speaking] was Mum". I prefer the past simple because her speaking happened in the past.

Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
