since the the advent of cinema and television

    Hello to all,

I want to write a formal answer to this question: How can celebrities impact people's lives?

    Here's my answer:

Famous people have had a powerful impact on people's lives since the the advent of cinema and television. And I think celebrities have become even more influential with the advent of social media platforms.

Two questions: Is the underlined part okay?

And what can I use instead of the second "advent" so as to avoid repeating it.

I appreciate any other suggestions to make it better.

The underlined parts are OK if you remove the duplicated word. But you should read the question again — you've answered a different one.

I know this does not directly answer the question. It's more like a general statement about celebrities.

You mean I should remove "advent" altogether? Is there an alternative word?

Why do you think you need to remove "advent"? GoesStation said you should remove the duplicated word. Do you understand what that means?
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

Doesn't it mean the word which has been repeated?

Yes, it does. You didn't repeat the word "advent" in one sentence. Look at the two words before "advent".

It's fine to repeat advent. But as GoesStation says, you have not addressed the question so it fails as an answer.

    Is this perfectly okay?

I know it's okay to repeat advent but I don't want to do it. How can I replace it?

Although you should edit to avoid needlessly repeating words, you can go too far. In this case, I think advent works okay both times. If you do want to avoid the repetition, you can replace the second instance with "creation" or "growth", or use both words.

    Can I ask why not?

If that's what you mean, then that's what you mean. If you use a different word, you get a different meaning.
