"this is a problem that should be dealt with by the police"
(model sentence)

This is my first question
is the sentence "this is a problem that should be tackle by the police" has the same meaning as previous mentioned senetence.

2nd question

This is a sentence in which am a bit confused ,i am wondering i usually use first form of verb while using "should be " why this sentence is using past participle form like used in the above sentence "dealt with"

i ordinarily get confused by trivial things ,maybe this is a dumb question 😅,this is my first post so help should be appreciated

"This is a problem that should be dealt with by the police."
(model sentence)

This is my first question: [STRIKE]Is[/STRIKE] Does the sentence "This is a problem that should be tackled by the police" [STRIKE]has[/STRIKE] have the same meaning as the [STRIKE]previous mentioned[/STRIKE] original [STRIKE]senetence[/STRIKE] sentence?

My [STRIKE]2nd[/STRIKE] second question is: This is a sentence [STRIKE]in which am a bit[/STRIKE] that has confused me. [STRIKE]I am wondering[/STRIKE] I usually use the first form of a verb [STRIKE]while[/STRIKE] when using "should be". Why does this sentence [STRIKE]is using[/STRIKE] use the past participle form [STRIKE]like used in the above sentence[/STRIKE] "dealt with"?

I [STRIKE]ordinarily[/STRIKE] frequently get confused by trivial things. Maybe this is a dumb question. [STRIKE],[/STRIKE]

This is my first post so your help [STRIKE]should[/STRIKE] would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. :hi:

Please note my corrections to your post above. It is important to follow these rules of written English at all times:

- Start every sentence with a capital letter.
- End every sentence with one appropriate punctuation mark.
- Always capitalise the word "I" (first person singular pronoun).
- Do not put a space before a comma, full stop, question mark or exclamation mark.
- Always put a space after a comma, full stop, question mark or exclamation mark.

Please tell us the source of the model sentence.

The model sentence uses the passive voice. Are you familiar with the passive?

It's the passive voice: be + past participle

"... should be dealt with..."
"... should be tackled..."

Compare it with the active voice:

"The police should deal with this issue."
"The police should tackle this issue."

It doesn't actually have anything to do with the presence of "should". The followng are all passive forms:

"... can be tackled..."
"... will be tackled..."
"... has been tackled..."
"... was tackled..."
"... is being tackled..."
"... is tackled..."

Remember the (amusing) golden rule - if you can add "by zombies" at the end, it's the passive. Here are some examples:

I have been bitten.
It should be dealt with as soon as possible.
He would like to be killed.

In your original sentence, "by the police" is what tells you it's the passive.

The car was driven by zombies.
The joke was told by zombies.

Thank you [STRIKE]sir[/STRIKE] for your reply and help. Perhaps my knowledge of [STRIKE]am weak in[/STRIKE] the active/passive voices is weak so I will work on it. Next time I will try not to make [STRIKE]too much[/STRIKE] so many grammatical mistakes.

Please note my corrections above. Please re-read the rules of written English I gave you in post #2 and follow them at all times.

Don't refer to users here as "sir". It is unnecessarily formal and it suggests you assume we are all men. We are not.
