My past home was a two-story house which had a garden.,,,,,
It is a very good memory for me, so I like to do farming in a suburban area. But condos don't have enough space for farming, so I have to rent/lease a small vegetable/kitchen garden in a suburban area for farming. Now I live in a tall condo, but I still miss a house with a small garden. So the goal of me and my wife is to buy small land, and build a house with a garden with our own design.

1. rent/lease : As I know, time-wise, rent is for a long term, while lease is for a short-term. So in this case, would it selected depending on the length of a contract term?
2. Which is correct? vegetable/kitchen garden
3. Is this the only option? the goal of me and my wife
Wouldn't "my and my wife's goal" work?
4. Doesn't "small land" need an article "a"?

1. I don't know where you got that idea. It's pretty much the same thing (especially here).
2. Vegetable garden
3. Our goal
4. This has already been discussed.

Where did you find that ("small land")?

Saying "a land" is like saying "a water". Try "a plot of land".
