through a pet owner's efforts to pass on unwanted offspring

    Hello,

Often pets are acquired suddenly, perhaps through a pet owner's efforts to pass on unwanted offspring.

Does the marked fragment mean "because a pet owner is trying hard to get rid of unanted offspring" or "because a pet owner is trying hard to give unwanted offspring to somebody else"?

    What do you think?

I can't. I can only say that it is an article about how to view animals properly.

I'm not sure what you mean by "suddenly" there. The female dog or cat gives birth then the owner asks around to see who wants a puppy or kitten. There is nothing sudden about that.

I would not use acquired, pass on, offspring.

Pet owners give away unwanted, newborn cats and dogs/ puppies and kittens for adoption.
I am not a teacher or a native speaker.

That doesn't make sense. If you have the article in front of you, you should at least have the name of the author. If you don't have the article in front of you, how did you remember the quote so perfectly?
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

Re: through a pet owner's efforts to pass on unwanted offspring

I can remember whole sentences in English. For instance, "Some children respond to just a glance from their parents". I sometimes have a brain fade and can't remember a specific word.
