Use to exemplify instead of for example

    Hello everyone,

Is it okay to use "to exemplify" instead of "for example" ?

Individuals should play their role in protecting the environment. For example, they should separate waste.

What are some alternatives the can be used instead of "for example", and "for instance"?

    No, don't use that.

Two things. One, is that not enough? Two, don't we separate something from something?

I'm very rapacious when it comes to learning English. Two is not enough for me

It's not about how many words you know. It's what you do with them that counts!

Well said. I don't just learn them. I try to use them in the proper context also considering register.

So, please tell me what are some alternatives that can be used instead of for example.

Nothing comes readily to mind for me. (I use "for example" quite a bit, and I have seen no reason to look for something else.)

Re: Use to exemplify instead of for example

I can't think of anything other than "For example" and "For instance" in the way you've used "For example" in post #1. If you change it to one sentence, you could use "like" or "such as".

Individuals should play their role in protecting the environment by doing things like/such as separating waste.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

I sometimes use "for one" and "for instance". (I'm not a native English speaker or a teacher)
