After winning a World Championship gold medal

    Have I made any mistakes?

After winning a World Championship gold medal in boxing, Robert Fox went to a pub to celebrate it. Everything went well until the closing time when Robert, influenced by alcohol, started attacking the staff and guests. If it had not been for a quick arrival of the police, he would probably have been lynched by the locals, who were furious at him. He had to sober up in the police custody and was released in the morning without charges. His father, Tom, who is also his coach, told the media that his son had brought disgrace on his family and his country, and he, as his father, wanted to apology to everyone. He had always told his son to behave like a gentleman, but Robert seemed not to heed his advice. After this kind of behaviour his medal wasn't worth a thing.

Re: After winning a World Championship gold medal

I'm only wondering why "it" in the first sentence is not correct. I think it is clear that "it" refers to his gold medal.

It's not natural, and it's not clear what the reference is to. You can say "to celebrate the win".
