    the latest breaking news

Take a deep breath and learn about the latest breaking news in the impeachment inquiry.

What's the difference in meaning between the latest news and the breaking news?

    Re: the latest breaking news

Breaking news is news about an event which is happening now or is just being reported for the first time. It should be, anyway; on American cable news stations, it often just means news.

Latest news is what has most recently been learned about an event.

    Re: the latest breaking news

breaking news = fresh news, happening now or being reported on for the first time now

latest news = most recent update on a news story - this needn't be very recent
