As you know, cooking pan steak requires seasoning the meat, so much smoke comes out while cooking. I didn't know how to turn on the cooking hood, and I thought smoke is emitted automatically. But it wasn't. There was a hood power switch in the control panel of the microwave oven. Because of the cooking smoke, the fire alarm suddenly went off!

Are the underlined correct?

First, I would delete the first three words in the first sentence.

Wikipedia calls it a kitchen hood, range hood or exhaust hood.

Say:

Because of the cooking smoke, the fire alarm went off.

Why can't you use "suddenly" for this?

If you do that you would use "suddenly" for every time the fire alarm goes off. In other words, as a modifier it's meaningless.

OK

smoke is emitted automatically

Maybe you mean you thought the smoke would be eliminated automatically. Now, of course, you know that isn't true. (You have to turn on the exhaust fan.)

Do fire alarms go off gradually?

Actually, I don't understand what you mean and what Tarheel means.
Could you explain in detail?

If that were an option ("The fire alarm went off gradually"), then it might make sense to use "suddenly" there. But it isn't, and it doesn't.
