    Is or are?

    There is about 16 months between the two photos.

    or

    There are about 16 months between the two photos.

    Which one is correct?

    I'm glad to see that you are now able to write normally in the text box.

    You will hear both 1 and 2 from native speakers. Those who are thinking of a period of 16 months having elapsed will use "There is". Those who are thinking of 16 individual months having elapsed will use "There are".
    Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
