    Singular or plural

the students each have to write a report.

"each" here imply each students,so why does it take plural verb in this sentence?(this is the correct sentence according to my English teacher)

    thx in advance.

When each is used after a plural subject, it has a plural verb (Ex: We each have our own car), whereas it is used in front of a singular noun, it's followed by a singular verb.

Ex:Each student has to write a report.

The core sentence is "The students have to write a report."

"Each" is included to clarify that one report per student is expected rather than one report done by all the students.
