    Galway

    Hello.

Do people in Galway call themselves British? There is a text in my book about a teacher who is from Galway, a city in the West of Ireland. There is a question about her asking if she is British or not.

Definitely not! They're Irish, and proud of it.

I wonder why she would ask if she's British. That doesn't make sense.

Maybe it's the context. Are you sure you read it right?
I'm not a teacher. I speak American English. I've tutored writing at the University of Southern Maine and have done a good deal of copy editing and writing, occasionally for publication.

The excercise asks 'is she British'? It is one of those 'true/false exercises.

The question 'Is she British?' cannot be answered by true or false.

No, I mean it is given in this way. 'Moira is not British, she is Irish.' T/F
