phoned in that Dennis Quaid movie

Frustrated, Topher says to Rusty about a girl:

Topher: I love her, but she is driving me crazy! I can't sleep. I can't work. I quit the show. I totally phoned in that Dennis Quaid movie.

    What does "phoned in something"?
Does it mean he lost the show because he didn't act properly?

Source: Ocean's Twelve (a 2004 American heist film directed by Steven Soderbergh)

As promised, this thread has been closed because the OP has made no attempt to look up "phone in (something)" himself, nor to provide the details of what he found.
The OP has been told that any threads without that information will be closed or deleted.

The OP has also been asked to post any new threads in the General Language Discussion section of the forum and has failed to do that too.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
