    No one can explain it clearly, fast, or otherwise. It's like a frustrated Mexican student I once tutored asked: "Why is it a cold, but the flu, but pneumonia?"

    It's English, that's why!
    I'm not a teacher. I speak American English. I've tutored writing at the University of Southern Maine and have done a good deal of copy editing and writing, occasionally for publication.
