    during the flood season

    Hi.

Are my two sentences idiomatic? Will native speakers use them?

    1) During the flood season, the river overruns its banks for several miles.
    2) The invading army overran a few scattered guerrilla outposts.

I think they're natural but maybe the second one is more specific. One might read it in newspapers about war or something. May I have your opinion?

I would use overflows for 1.
I am not a teacher or a native speaker.

    Try that.

I agree with Tedmc. The rest looks fine to me.
I'm not a teacher. I speak American English. I've tutored writing at the University of Southern Maine and have done a good deal of copy editing and writing, occasionally for publication.
