Could you tell me the meaning of these phrases? They are from a text which talks about celebrities who help poor people.

    1) All this might sound like carping.
    2) suitably togged up in battlefield chic.
    3) trudging down the lane.
    4) by such luminaries.

    Thank you!

    Re: meaning of these phrases.

    1) All this might sound like carping.
    "Carping" means criticizing or complaining.
"Three weeks after we returned home Donna was still carping about the poor service we received during the return flight."

    2) suitably togged up in battlefield chic.
"Togged up" means dressed in, or the clothes that you are wearing. "Battlefield chic" indicates Army fatigues or camouflage-colored clothing.
Jennifer Lopez took time out from her filming schedule to tog up in an olive drab T-shirt and camouflage trousers (the latest in Battlefield Chic) to greet the soldiers in Iraq.

    3) trudging down the lane.
    Walking slowly, dragging your feet.
"I'd missed the last bus when I finished shopping, so I ended up trudging down the lane, carrying all my groceries."

    4) by such luminaries.
"Luminaries" are celebrities or famous people.
The people waiting outside the G7 conference were honored to be acknowledged by such luminaries as Bono, Bob Geldof and Tony Blair.
