the hands of a middle aged woman

    Hello

I'm writing a short story. In it, I want to describe the hands of a middle-aged woman in her forties.

Can I use the word "wrinkled"? Or is it for very old people?

What do you think about this sentence? I mean what kind of image does it create in your mind?

Her daughter held her moisturized wrinkled hand firmly, trying to reassure her that things will be okay.

It's not terrible. But you're right that it makes her sound older. You might try something like:

    - work-worn
    - care-worn
    - chapped
    - calloused
I'm not a teacher. I speak American English. I've tutored writing at the University of Southern Maine and have done a good deal of copy editing and writing, occasionally for publication.

Not for me- I'm in my fifties and my hands are wrinkled.
