When you say "older," do you mean writers over a certain age or people who wrote a long time ago?
I'm not a teacher. I speak American English. I've tutored writing at the University of Southern Maine and have done a good deal of copy editing and writing, occasionally for publication.

A variant of the Victorian joke:

    He: Do you like Kipling?

    She: I don't know. I've never kippled.

With older I mean those with white hair, nearing death, and those who are resting in peace.

I have a friend whose hair turned white at the age of 28. I'll find out if she's written a book.
