Which one is correct?

1."If only he has studied" very hard this semester, he would not fail his exam now.

or

2."If he had studied" very hard this semester, he would not fail his exam now.

My guess is that it's the first one. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum. :hi:

Why have you added "only" to sentence 1? It would make more sense as a question if you were just comparing "If he has studied" and "If he had studied".

Why are you just guessing at the answer? What have you learnt about the present perfect and past perfect tenses?

Welcome, Naritnarin!

They're both wrong. You might mean something like:

- If he has studied hard this semester, he will not fail his exam now.

- If only he had studied hard this semester, he would not have failed his exam now.

- If only he had studied hard this semester, he would not be failing his exam now.
