I was walking peacefully, then I realised that I.....
a)was being followed
b) had been followed
I think the answer is b.
Is it right to use the word then? Isn't when better than then?

Two things. One, are those your sentences? Two, how would you answer your question?

Sorry. I don't understand you.

The words "can not" do not work there unless you mean to say you are unable to understand me.

I asked if you wrote those sentences. I also asked you to take the first shot at answering the question.

You can do it!

Try!

OK. Try:

I was walking home from work when I realized somebody was following me.

How about 'I realized I was being followed by someone When I was walking home from work'?

How about everyone stops answering the thread until mohammedabo does what he has been asked to do in at least two or three other threads, and gives us the source of the original sentences?

My sentence source is a Facebook group. Do you want me to provide you with its link?

My two questions, is it a or b?
Which word is better then or when?

No, a link in that case is unnecessary, mainly because it would be accessible only to people who have a Facebook account. However, in future, please make sure you tell us the source in post #1.

My two questions are as follows.

1. Is [STRIKE]it[/STRIKE] the correct answer a or b?
2. Which word is better - then or when?

1. It's not a great question, to be honest. Both answers a technically possible. We don't generally suddenly realise that something has already happened but it's not impossible. I imagine that whoever was asking the question was looking for a though.

2. With "then", you get a comma splice. With "when", you don't.

If you were supposed to supply an answer then it must have been in response to a question.

I would not say "I was walking peacefully." Do you know why?

Yes, because of this full stop.

You can walk fast. You can walk slow. You can walk steadily. You can pause every little bit.

You can come up with all kinds of sentences that are grammatical but aren't real in the sense that they would ever be used. I would never say "I was walking peacefully" because I have no idea what that means.

The adverb peacefully is hardly used with walk. It goes well with live/rest/sleep/die.

Mohammedabo, the title of your thread is itself in error. It contains two sentences separated only by a comma. We call that a run-on sentence or a comma splice. You should have used a full stop (period) rather than a comma.
