    I observed a boy climb over the gate.

    Hello.
    Could you please tell me if the two patterns below are correct?

    1. observe + object + bare infinitive (indicating a whole action)
    1) I observed a boy climb over the gate.

    2. observe + object + present participle (indicating an action in progress)
    1) I observed a boy climbing up the tree.

    Use the participle.
