Is this correct and natural?

I arrived home, exhausted. I slept a deep, dreamless sleep and woke up before dawn. The pinkish rays of sun were beginning to leak through the window when I went outside to buy freshly-baked bread. When I came back home, the curtains were drawn and there was a muddy footprint on the white sheets of my bed.

[We can assume it wasn't freshly fried, boiled, or barbecued.] When I came back home, the curtains were drawn and there was a muddy footprint on the white bedsheet.

It's good. I wonder about leak. Other possibilities:

- seep
- stream
- filter
- shine
