    Just and only

    Hello!!!

Can you explain me please, when I should use "only" and when "just".

ex: "I only like apple pie." or "I just like apple pie."

    Thanks in advance.

In the examples you mentioned, "only" is more definately conveying the idea that it's apple pie you like and nothing else. On the other hand, I just like apple pie sounds more like an answer to the question "Why do you like apple pie", without it implying that you don't like anything else.

To my 'umble ears at least

They can be synonyms but usually aren't.

    It was only a scratch.
    It was just a scratch.

In that use, they are synonyms.
