Hi

In contrasting viewpoints essay, which says Discuss both views and give your own opinion, should my position be clear in all of the essay or can I only mention it in conclusion after discussing the views?

Hi.

In a "contrasting viewpoints" essay, which says "Discuss both views and give your own opinion", should my position be clear [STRIKE]in all of[/STRIKE] from the start of the essay or can I only mention it in conclusion after discussing the views?

Please note my corrections above. I have also made your title grammatical.

I will let someone more familiar with the current IELTS system reply in full, but in the days that I had to write essays, we were told to make our position clear in the opening, then discuss all points of view, then repeat our position in the conclusion.

I'd strongly advise you to give your opinion only in the conclusion. This kind of essay demands an evidence-led approach. It should be as if you're examining both sides and only then drawing a conclusion from your own examination.
