    Pronunciation of "Success"/səkˈses/, /sʌkˈses/,

    Dear all,

According to OALD, the IPA of success is /səkˈses/, but sometimes I hear some people pronounce /sʌkˈses/, I wonder if /sʌkˈses/ is a common pronunciation in native speaking. Thanks.

    Kind regards,
    Peter

A useful video - if it had been called 'How to pronounce success unnaturally".

I'm not a teacher. I speak American English. I've tutored writing at the University of Southern Maine and have done a good deal of copy editing and writing, occasionally for publication.

She speaks slowly and clearly, which seems (to me) to make her speech a bit unnatural.
Her "success" sounds better here (around 00:50):

Oldbuddy, I noticed you "liked" my post, so is that what you heard? If it's not, then there's nothing more for me to say.

It is indeed more natural. It's odd that she models a sound that she doesn't use herself in ordinary speech.
