Re: Is there a name for this area?

What would you call it in Persian?

What's the dude who's partially obscured by the arrow doing?

We don't have a specific name for it. We might say a gently sloping area at the edge of the river.

Don't worry, he is not doing anything bad. The picture has a low resolution but he is leaning on a woman sitting next to him.

    Okay. Does this work?

We sat in a gentle slope at the edge of the river, covered in badly-kept lawn.

I know lawn is not in the photo. I added it.

Also, look up bank, riverbank, embankment, and berm.

I'm not a teacher. I speak American English. I've tutored writing at the University of Southern Maine and have done a good deal of copy editing and writing, occasionally for publication.

    What about lakeside or riverside?
I am not a teacher or a native speaker.

    Thanks folks.

    Is this okay?

We sat in a gentle slope on the riverbank, covered in badly-kept lawn.

It's okay if you mean you were covered in unkempt lawn.

That is not what I mean. Is it the comma?

We sat in a gentle slope on the riverbank covered in badly-kept lawn.

It's an improvement, but it would be better rephrased.
