I want to express the idea that a person has mood swings

I want to express the idea that a person has mood swings and that is reflected in their facial expressions.

I want to express that a person's lips moved as she smiled and the smile went away. I also want to express how laughter turns into cry.

A smile spread across her face. Then her lips slowly crumpled as she thought about her late husband.

She was watching a comedy. She began to chuckle and it slowly turned into loud, side-splitting laughter. A few seconds later, the memories stifled her laughter and it gave way to a low cry.

I know it needs to be worked on. I would appreciate your suggestions.
