    Hyphens #1

    Do the following 4 have hyphens? 1.) red-gold (the colour) 2.) spun-gold 3.) castle-mound (a hill created to build a castle on) 4.) out-of-control

    I think you've asked about these before.

    The first would always be hyphenated.

    The others would only be hyphenated as attributive (not predicate) adjectives.

    That said, it would be difficult to imagine "castle mound" in that use.

    She was wearing a spun-gold gown.
    Her gown was made of spun gold.

    An out-of-control robot destroyed Japan.
    The robot was out of control.

    She wore a red-gold dress.
    Her dress was red-gold.
