My name is Kat, and I own a cat, but there's more to me than that.

The reason I've used two commas is because I believe that this is a compound sentence that is made up of three independent clauses: "My name is Kat", "I own a cat", and "There's more to me than that."

However, I'm not 100% it's been written correctly and just wanted to get some advice.

Hello there, and welcome to the forum. :)
Yes, you do have three independent clauses linked by coordinating conjunctions (and, but), and your punctuation is okay.
Are you writing some kind of nursery rhyme?

Thanks for your reply. I'm trying to improve my ability to write sentences and I thought about this sentence and wondered how to write it. I know someone called Kat who does in fact own a cat, so maybe they inspired me. 😄

That's quite a coincidence that Kat owns a cat. However, you have clearly never lived with a cat.

The expression "dog owner" clearly exists, but does anybody ever talk about cat owners?
:)

NOT A TEACHER

How about something like: "I know someone called Kat who does in fact own a cat, but there's more to him than that."

Your profile indicates that British English is your native language. Is that inaccurate?

I would guess that only a small minority of speakers of BrE know anything at all about compound sentences.
